To me, art is not
a definition, a description, an explanation.

Art is an effective surprise.

To me, the form of art
is not its meaning.

The form of art is the spark
that causes meaning to jump up.

To me, art is not a
lightening shock of the new.

Art is the glimmering shadow
of a never before seen thing.

When I was teaching art, a colleague told me:

Art is an arrow shot in a darkened room
at a target you cannot see.
You only know you have not hit it,
again and again,

until you do.
